Small Islands Environment & Development Organisation (SIED)
We are a new think-tank based in Vanuatu, servicing Small Island Developing States (SIDS) predominantly. The objective of the organisation is to engage in cutting-edge research and analysis - delivered by experts from the South - to assist in the advancement of sustainable development and climate change resilient communities.
We wish to harness the considerable local expertise that is evident in the region and engage it to address some the most challenging issues that SIDS face in a manner that respects and builds on our cultural norms.
We no longer have the privilege of time, of protracted funding processes, and box ticking projects which do not add to the security and resilience of SIDS. We can only instigate the wide scale change we need to protect our societies from the challenge of climate change and environmental degradation by working with the grain of our traditional and cultural heritage.
SIED is as an adaptive and evolving organisation, as a think-tank we strive to contribute novel, independent research, that can effectively confront challenges, generate ideas and develop solutions unhindered by bias to address areas of need.
We are currently undergoing a significant change in order to become a fully decentralised think-tank - updates will follow soon
